Welcome !

Welcome to the Gereformeerde Kerk Vrijgemaakt in Delft. Feel free to roam the site. It's mainly in Dutch, but some of it may not be so hard to understand if you can read English.

Who or what are we?

Gereformeerde  Kerk Vrijgemaakt can be translated something like 'Free Reformed Church'. The name may a little bit confusing: It dates back to the 1940's, when the synod of the Reformed Church in the Netherlands decided in a very peculiar way on the meaning of baptism. The people that later became the members of the 'vrijgemaakte' church could not agree and took the liberty, or freedom not to comply with this decision - hence the name.

Nowadays, the Gereformeerde Kerken in Nederland, the official name, consist of some 270 local churches with over 125,000 members. The Gereformeerde Kerk Vrijgemaakt in Delft is one of these local churches, having some 440 members.

Rather than being liberal, we try to stick to the Bible as our guideline in the church and in our lives. Like many Christians, we approve and accept the three Ecumenical creeds: The Apostles' Creed, the Nicene Creed, and the Athanasian Creed. We also accept the three so-called 'Forms of Unity': the Belgic Confession, the Heidelberg Catechism, and the Canons of Dort.  They are still important to us.  There is one other confession that should be mentioned here: the Westminster Confession. It is also accepted by our churches, but it plays no significant role in our services.

Where (and when) to find us

Of course, you can find us through the addresses on the  info ('Informatie') page. You are always welcome to the services that are weekly held in the 'Immanuëlkerk' in Delft, Schoemakerstraat 1 (for a map, go to the information pages as well and look for the 'kerkgebouw').
Services are normally held at 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM every Sunday - but since we have no minister at the moment, these times may vary. Please check the  calendar (or 'Deze Maand' ) page on this site and check for the 'kerkdiensten'. If you want more information, or if you have questions, you can also find us through the addresses on the  info ('Informatie') page.

Translations available

At the moment, sermons and some other parts of the morning services are translated into English. They are available at the entrance of the building before we start.

So don't hesitate, come and join us next Sunday!

Abroad, sistership relations exist with several churches. Some of them are:

  • Canadian and American Reformed Churches

  • Evangelical Presbyterian Church in England and Wales

  • Free Church of Scotland

  • The  Reformed Church of Japan
